From Socrates to Dr. Seuss

I was reading Plato’s Crito for Modern Political Thought the other day, and came upon this:

“But why, my dear Crito, should we care about the opinion of the many? Good men, and they are the only persons who are worth considering, will think of these things truly as they happened.”

When I read that, I was struck by the timelessness of it. Here’s a more modern version from Dr. Seuss:

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

I thought it was kind of neat to see that some things just don’t change. Now if only I was a little better at acting like that…

LOL,

Tim

Sunrise Over Montréal

‘Nuff said. Sunrise + good company = all is right in the world.

We were up all night – I went to bed at 8AM and then was up at 1130 or so to go to Marché Jean-Talon, a farmer’s market by one of the large east-west roads in Montréal. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so many free samples in my life! My culinary creativity definitely felt stimulated, but on a student’s schedule I didn’t think that I’d have the time to cook much of anything I bought. That, and I was going to go sit in a park and eat with my floor afterwards, so any meat might have been at risk. Trop domage! Next time though 😉

I shall see thee anon, Vancouver

I had my goodbye party yesterday…when I saw all these wonderful people it slowly started to sink in that I’m leaving in just over three days! Thanks to everyone who came out, I had a lot of fun and ate far too much. With the party all said and done I have only to pack for my imminent departure – that is my big goal for this week: pack ahead of time so Thursday is sane. I’m also hitting the ice on Monday and Tuesday, maybe Wednesday as well.

Count backwards from three and breathe.

LOL,

Tim
